Ainu Culture Forest and Densho no Kotan (Kotan Heritage)

History

Located to the north of Asahikawa, amid the natural beauty of Arashiyama Nature Park, this museum recreates a traditional Ainu kotan (village) to preserve the Ainu culture and keep it alive. The Ainu Culture Forest and Densho no Kotan (Kotan Heritage) faithfully recreates the chise houses where the Ainu people lived, complete with village amenities such as a puu, or traditional food store. It’s easy to see the way the Ainu people lived in harmony with nature.
