Silk Farmers House
History
The Silkworm Farmer’s House was built by Shigematsu Matsuura, a silkworm farmer who moved to Asahikawa from Fukushima in northern Honshu. He built the House in 1909, modeling it on local silkworm farmers’ houses. The tall house is noble and beautiful, with a distinctive roof that has a different style on either side. One side is a hipped-gable roof and the other is made from thickly thatched nutmeg yew like the houses that stood nearby.
