TKaneto Kawamura Ainu Museum is Japanfs oldest and only privately-owned Ainu museum. It was opened in 1916 by Kaneto Kawamura, the 8th chief of one of the Kamikawa Subprefecturefs best-known Ainu families, so that the day-to-day culture of the Ainu people could be passed on properly. The museum houses a huge number of precious artefacts that show the culture and customs of the Ainu people.
